Mixed Use Community Landscape Master Plan
Middle East
The master plan for this modern oasis located in a desert landscape of 202 hectares (500 acres) balances traditional Middle Eastern forms and Western sensibilities.
The natural phenomena of undulating desert dunes inspired the design of the master plan. The concept acknowledges the history of the region where life in the desert is a relationship between water and plants. Organized around a composition of landforms, native vegetation and waterways, the design provides recreation, encourages social interaction and community identity, promotes healthy lifestyles and an awareness of the connection between health and nature.
Encompassing religious, educational, cultural, commercial and residential development, the plan melds architecture and landscape into a cohesive whole. At the source of the waterway spine, framed by a mosque and center of knowledge, religion is given a place of honor in the life of the community.
