Healing Woodlands Project Walter Reed National Military Medical Center Bethesda, Maryland
The Healing Woodlands Project offers an opportunity for recovering wounded soldiers, their families and caregivers, and the entire medical community to benefit from nature's restorative qualities. Located in the heart of the medical campus, the project involves the restoration and enhancement of an underused wooded ravine into a vital component of a comprehensive therapeutic environment.
The project encompasses both environmental and individual health. The ravine restoration program improves water quality and storm water management for the medical campus and surrounding community with an ecologically rich native setting. Strategically located between the medical center, family housing, and other services, the woodlands can complement medical care by incorporating therapeutic programs; can provide a destination for socialization and gatherings; and can offer a place of respite for individuals and families.
