University of Virginia Health System
Health Sciences Campus Master Plan
Charlottesville, Virginia |
 |
 |
Dirtworks joined a multi-disciplinary team of planners, architects, and engineers to develop a Master Plan that will guide the Health Sciences Campus growth for the next twenty years. The Health Sciences Campus includes the Medical and Nursing Schools, University Hospital, Children's Medical Center, Medical Research Laboratories and associated administrative facilities.
The process entailed detailed analysis of the existing conditions, including vehicular and pedestrian circulation systems and open spaces, as well as connections between facilities. The team studied the relationship of these systems to the historic core of the campus, the university as a whole and the city of Charlottesville. The final document included a plan for overall growth, and plans for siting a new Children's Medical Center, Cancer Center and education facilities. It also established a series of architecture and landscape design and maintenance guidelines with the goal of sustainability and incorporating nature into the daily life of the campus.
Since completion of the plan, Dirtworks has been involved in the design and implementation of a number of proposed facilities, including the new Nursing and Medical Education buildings, Hospital expansion, streetscape and landscape enhancements.
