The project includes a series of gardens and site enhancements for a new Health Center for 60 residents and a new Fitness Center in a large, rural Continuing Care Retirement Community.
The overall concept draws upon the existing natural surroundings and enhances the familiar Connecticut landscape. With careful site planning, the native plantings flow around and between the wings of the buildings, blending into the surrounding woodlands and meadows.
Dirtworks worked closely with the client and architect to develop three gardens focusing on the needs of residents with Alzheimer's Disease. The largest is the most active garden and provides a range of opportunities for the staff as well as a flexible space for large, facility-wide gatherings. Two additional gardens serve the new Fitness Center and the Health Center's arrival area.
